A plea for help - let's give a paralyzed man a chance to leave his home!

My husband is 100% disabled with the need for someone else's help after suffering a severe stroke. We live on the second floor and he has been unable to leave our home independently for 8 years because he is unable to go up and down stairs. Every time we have to ask friends and neighbours to take him down in his wheelchair and then up again. This is distressing, dangerous and humiliating.

We had hope. We wanted to apply to the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy's Accessible Environment Programme to build a stair platform. But, unfortunately, signatures are required from all the neighbours. Despite reports on Nova TV and local media in Kardzhali, and despite the fact that we have been in talks with the neighbours since January 2024 - we have not received any signatures. They refused, arguing that the platform would be a nuisance and noisy.

So we missed the deadline to apply for the programme and our only option left is to build the platform with our own funds. The law allows us to do this, with permission from the municipality and without the need for neighbor signatures, but the funds are prohibitive for us.

The project with the platform and all the construction and installation works costs 53 000 BGN (about 27 000 euro). This is the price of freedom for a man who is otherwise condemned to live as a prisoner in his own home.

I ask you from the bottom of my heart - help us raise these funds. Every help, every donation is a step towards my husband seeing the street, nature, the doctor or just the sun again.
